Adopt A Senior
The following items are larger, life altering needs requested by Meals on Wheels clients. Groups may enjoy pooling their resources, or individuals may contribute whatever they can afford. No donation is too small. Together we can make a difference!

Read senior stories and graciously provide a donation below

Cynthia

Cynthia suffers from Progressive MS. She lives alone in a small but tidy trailer and is bussed daily to one of Community SeniorServ’s Adult Day Health Care Centers. While at the center, she enjoys a nutritious breakfast and lunch. Once she returns home, she faces an empty refrigerator each night and she hopes a neighbor will bring food on the weekends. Community SeniorServ is currently providing meals from our emergency fund, but is seeking funding to provide Meals for Cynthia on a long term basis.

Meals are $7.00/day; $35.00 per week; $140 per month

Linda (Adopted - Thank  You!)

Linda has fallen twice; first fracturing her back and then breaking her foot. Since her falls, her mobility is limited so she spends most her time sitting. Linda states that she would love to pass the time reading the newspaper and chat ting with occasional visitors, but due to her limited income she cannot afford the bifocals she needs to see well enough to enjoy either. Linda’s life would be enhanced considerably with a pair of bifocal glasses.

Estimated cost: $260

Jean

Jean currently receives case management services from Community SeniorServ but cannot eat our Meals on Wheels because she only has 2 teeth. Jean is in desperate need of dentures.

Estimated cost: $1000-$2500

Eloisa and Luis (Adopted - Thank  You!)

79 year old Eloisa and her husband Luis have been receiving Meals on Wheels since 2005. Luis is experiencing the advanced stages of Parkinson’s Disease. They are facing extreme financial challenges and have difficulty paying rent and utilities. They are in need of a new refrigerator to keep their Meals on Wheels fresh.

Frank (Adopted - Thank  You!)

Frank needs a reclining wheelchair to go outdoors. Frank is a 69 year old recent amputee requiring dialysis 3 times weekly. He receives Meals on Wheels and lives with his wife who is his primary caregiver in a small apartment. Until recently, Frank was able to ambulate using his walker and electric wheelchair. When his leg was amputated, Frank became bedbound, and is no longer able to use either of these devices. Frank also experiences chronic back pain resulting in the inability to stay in a sitting position without sliding off the chair. Due to this limitation, his wife has requested a reclining wheelchair with an elevated footrest so she could wheel Frank outdoors to breathe the fresh air, enjoy the sun, and maintain his daily activities. Due to their limited income, Frank is not able to afford the reclining wheelchair. Insurance will not cover the cost of the chair because of prior approval for the electric wheelchair.

Estimated cost is $425

Maria (Adopted - Thank  You!)

Maria and her husband are in need of a Queen Mattress, two standard pillows and a comforter. She explains that when they lay down, the mattress slopes down to the middle. She feels her health would improve if she could get a good night’s rest.

Estimated Cost: Queen Mattress; $300

Carol (Adopted - Thank  You!)

Carol rents a small room and has difficulty transporting herself to the larger refrigerator in the kitchen. She requested a small mini-refrigerator to keep her daily Meals on Wheels fresh and conveniently located next to her bed.

Estimated Cost: $120

Lydia (Adopted - Thank  You!)

Lydia is a widow renting a small bedroom receiving Meals on Wheels. She currently sleeps on a cot but dreams of having a twin bed with a frame. Her clothes are kept in boxes on the floor. A medium sized dresser would help prevent falls by providing easy access to her clothes without stooping down. She also requests a medium sized bed for Scooter, her canine roommate.

Estimated cost: Twin bed and frame: $200 , Medium sized bureau: $150-$200 Dog Bed: $20

Guadalupe (Adopted - Thank  You!)

Guadalupe ‘s refrigerator is rusted and does not keep her Meals on Wheels cold enough. She would like a replacement that measures 28.5”x 58.25”

Estimated cost: $400
