Making the holidays Magical   for Homebound Seniors

Thank you for your interest in supporting SeniorServ’s 2012 “Grant A Wish for a Senior” Holiday Gift Program.  Last year this program provided over 1200 gifts to homebound seniors and participants in our Adult Day Centers.

The holidays can be a difficult time for many homebound seniors who find themselves in poor health, living in solitude, with little social contact.  For these older adults, a simple holiday remembrance can transform an otherwise dreary season into something as magical as their distant childhood memories.

Here’s how our program works:

Each year, SeniorServ contacts hundreds of Orange County Meals on Wheels recipients and ask them what is on their wish list for the holidays.  Each of their wishes are written on personalized gift tags and distributed to participating organizations in the Orange County Community.  Individuals within the organizations are invited to select a tag (or tags) and  purchase the item(s) listed.  Gifts are then delivered by staff and Meals on Wheels delivery volunteers to the homes of the recipients in mid December.

This year we are in need of additional support for our “Adopt a Senior” holiday program reserved for a limited number of individuals who have expressed larger items needed to continue living independently in their homes.  Groups may choose to pool their donations together to help provide more expensive items for these individuals.  These life changing requests will be published on the SeniorServ  website beginning December 6th.  They range in price from $30-$2000.
