Members of Community SeniorServ’s Board of Directors donated a record 220 gift cards to kickoff the agency’s “Adopt a Senior” Holiday Gift Program.

Each year, Community SeniorServ contacts hundreds of home-bound Meals on Wheels recipients and asks them what is on their wish list for the holidays. Volunteers and donors are invited to  adopt a senior and purchase the requested items. Gifts are then delivered directly to the seniors, many of whom may not receive a single gift during the holidays. Gift cards are the most popular choice as they provide the opportunity for an outing with a caregiver or companion to purchase the items they want.

“Due to economic hardship for many homebound, low income seniors, our agency’s goal this year is to provide over 1,300 individuals with gifts,” said CEO Holly Hagler.  “The Holidays are difficult for those who are homebound without family or friends in the area and the gifts brighten their Holidays.”

“It’s exciting to see that our board members, who already support the organization through gifts of time, talent and monetary donations have taken our traditional kick-off Holiday Gift Program to a new level,” said Theresa Powell, the agency’s Director of Volunteer Services, who oversees the Holiday Gift Program. “We are seeing a similar increase by many of our traditional donors, there are so many unmet needs that we can use all the support we can get.”

Community SeniorServ is the largest Meals on Wheels and senior nutrition provider in Orange County and the State of California. In addition to its nutrition programs Community SeniorServ also provides its participants with case management services and in-home supportive services as needed. Community SeniorServ also operates three Adult Day Care Centers in the county.
