MR. RICH
More than Just a Meal
When recently interviewed for a CSS agency video, Santa Ana Meals on Wheels recipient Robert Rich, was not at a loss for words. The first thing he said was “I want to thank my Case Manager for caring about me when no one else did.” Our Case Manager helped him get on the Meals on Wheels program, and she also helped Mr. Rich secure a new bed, microwave oven and even some occasional homemaking support.
Mr. Rich shared “there are a lot of older adults like me that are lonely. It is great to know there is someone out there that cares about us.”
Mr. Rich worked at Douglas Aircraft for 40 years, but now depends on social security to care for himself and his disabled son. They rent two small rooms in a modest home in Santa Ana. The home owner gave Mr. Rich permission to build a workshop in the back yard where spends hours following his passion…inventing new products. He hopes his most recent invention, a new and improved caulking gun, will be a big hit. “If this design takes off, I want to make a substantial donation to Community SeniorServ so they can help more seniors like me”, said Mr. Rich.
