Meals On Wheels
Community SeniorServ prepares and delivers three meals daily directly to the home of homebound, frail, socially isolated seniors living in central, and north Orange County.
A registered dietician plans the meals to provide 100% of the U.S. Nutritional Recommended Daily Allowance - consisting of breakfast, a cold lunch and a frozen dinner.
Our program is more that just a meal. In addition to meals, clients benefit from the daily contact of delivery drivers, as well as the calls and visits of case workers who regularly check on their well-being.
Meals Served 2009

Benefits
- Good nutrition is the foundation of health regardless of age.
- Meals On Wheels allow frail seniors to continue living at home independently avoiding premature institutional care.
- Clients benefit from the daily contact of delivery drivers, as well as the calls and visits of case workers who regularly check on their well-being.
Eligibility
Following the "Title III" guidelines under the "Older American's Act", eligible clients of Community SeniorServ's Meals On Wheels Program are:
- Homebound and frail seniors (age 60 and older) that are so by reason of illness, disability or isolation
- Concentrated for those seniors who have greatest nutritional risk, economic and social needs
- Other eligible individuals include a "Spouse" and/or "Disabled Dependent" of a client (regardless of age or condition) if after an assessment concludes that it is in the best interest of the client for these individuals to receive meals (priority is given to the older adult).
- Residing in Community SeniorServ's service area of central and north Orange County
When routes are full and there are no open spaces for delivery or when funding prohibits adding additional elders the priority for service is reviewed and the person is placed on the waiting list in order of meeting the established criteria, not necessarily, on a "first come, first served basis."
Cost
The suggested donation for home delivered meals is $4.50/day. Any donation, no matter how large or small, is always greatly appreciated and accepted although no individual will be turned away due to inability to donate.
Referrals for Service
Referrals may be made by any concerned individual, family members, neighbors, social workers, physicians, hospital discharge planners, or any other person by calling the Home Services Department at (714) 220-0224.
Program Outcomes
Community SeniorServ regularly assesses the value our Meals On Wheels is making in the lives our clients. The assessment is based on data collected at three month service intervals and solid research techniques. Study results have consistently shown that with the delivery of meals to the homebound:
- Nutrition and health are improved
- Isolation scores and depression scores are reduced
- The use of supportive services increases.
- The number and length of hospitalizations drop significantly.
